ABOUT FRANK C. BARONE
The artwork of Frank C. Barone is a reflection of my passion for painting from observation, mainly landscapes. Drawing live figures has greatly influenced my ability to paint landscapes from observation. The time constraints of the changing natural light during plein-air painting and the eventual departure of the model during figure drawing both present unique challenges that infuse my work with energy and freshness. My goal is to create compelling designs while staying faithful to observation and infusing my unique generalization. Dramatic light is essential for my outdoor work, allowing me to depict visual reality with dark darks and light lights. I strive to capture the essence of light through composition, personal painting style, and local color invention, often incorporating architecture and inanimate objects to enhance the play of light and form. The challenge of creating a 'sketchy' or 'thick paint' look while accurately depicting what I see is the joy of painting for me. In 2011, my focus shifted to preparing for a one-person exhibit featuring paintings of Lake Wauburg - UF’s recreational facility. This led to a greater emphasis on studio work, resulting in larger 'statements' through my art. Many of the Lake Wauburg paintings can be viewed at the Falcon Financial Management Offices until March 2012.
